Hiking Along Prins Bertil's path in Halmstad

Hiking along Prins Bertil's path feels like stepping into a living painting of Halland’s stunning coastal landscape. This 18-kilometer trail winds from Halmstad Castle in the city center all the way out to the art gallery at Möllegård, offering a beautiful mix of forest, sea views, and charming cottage areas.

Starting in Central Halmstad

We began our day in downtown Halmstad, where the trail officially starts. The first stretch follows the riverside promenade along the Nissan River, past the marina and onward to Västra stranden—Halmstad’s closest and most popular beach. From there, we passed the outdoor swimming stadium Brottet and wandered through a lush alder swamp forest.

Views and picturesque charm at Örnäsudden  and Grötvik

By lunchtime, the landscape opened up to breathtaking coastal views at Örnäsudden, where we enjoyed our packed lunch with the sea as our companion. In Grötvik, we strolled through the charming fishing harbor, surrounded by boats, a cozy café, and lively water sports in a former quarry. The area is dotted with adorable summer cottages that add to the local charm.

Tylösand beach and Nyrebäcken's tranquil nature reserve

We continued toward Tylösand, where we took a well-deserved ice cream break at the seaside. The beach here is wide and welcoming, and it’s easy to see why it’s so beloved by both locals and visitors. The final stretch of our hike led us through the tranquil, leafy valley of Nyrebäcken. Here, the coastal scenery gives way to lush deciduous forest, and the trail winds gently toward Halmstad Golf Club. From there, we caught the bus back to the city center. What a lovely day, filled with fresh air and incredibly beautiful views.
