Visiting Astrid Lindgren's World in Vimmerby is like stepping into the pages of her beloved books. When the children were younger, our family cherished the summer weekends spent exploring this enchanting amusement park, where the stories of Pippi Longstocking, Emil of Lönneberga, and Ronja Rövardotter come to life.
Stepping Right Into A Story Book
Visiting Astrid Lindgren's world was a family tradition for several summers in a row, and we always started our day in The Tiny Tiny Town, where you can wander around feeling like a giant. The miniature houses and streets make you feel like you've stepped into a world where everything is just a bit smaller. On the other hand, Simon's Small House offers the opposite experience. Here, you can't even reach the chair seat with your fingertips, making you feel like a tiny character in a giant's world.
The whole family absolutely adores the world of Ronja the Robber's Daughter. The park's recreation of Matt's Fort and the surrounding forest is truly magical. We spent hours exploring the fort, crossing the rickety bridge, and imagining ourselves as part of Ronja's adventures.
Characters brought to life
The theatre plays at Astrid Lindgren's World are another highlight of our visits. We've watched fantastic performances featuring Pippi Longstocking, That Emil, Mardie, and Karlsson on The Roof. The actors bring these beloved characters to life with such energy and enthusiasm that it's impossible not to be captivated.
Swedish Family Dining
When it comes to dining, the theme park restaurant offers a delightful mix of traditional Swedish dishes and kid-friendly options. The adults in our group always enjoyed the traditional kroppkakor, while the kids couldn't get enough of the pancakes. In the shop, we chose a new story book eyery year, adding to our beautiful Astrid Lindgren collection at home.
Relaxing at Björkbacken Vacation Village
After a day of adventure in Astrid Lindgren's World, we would head back to our cozy accommodations at Björkbackens vacation village, located on the opposite side of Vimmerby. The kids loved the pool area, and it was the perfect place to unwind and relax after a fun-filled day at the park.
